SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Robert F. "Bob" Kennett OD of
4Bloomington, who passed away on February 3, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was born in Carroll, Iowa to Emery and
6Eva Brafford Kennett on September 18, 1938; he was raised on a
7farm near Lidderdale, Iowa; he graduated from Carroll High
8School, where he participated in many sports; he attended
9Simpson College and earned a degree in elementary education; at
10Simpson, he participated in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity; he
11married Dorothy Hodges on July 19, 1959; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was a fourth grade teacher in Des
13Moines, Iowa for many years before earning an advanced degree
14and becoming an optometrist; he moved to Chicago and attended
15optometry school at the Illinois Institute of Technology; along
16with going to school, he drove a bus on State Street and worked
17in the men's department at Marshall Fields during Christmas
18break; after graduation, he purchased an optometry practice in
19Bloomington and began his lifelong journey of building a
20practice, taking care of his patients, raising his family,
21making friends, and staying involved in the community; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was involved in the Kiwanis Club of

1Bloomington, and he served as president, in a district
2leadership role, and also enjoyed participating in Camp
3Limberlost, the annual pancake breakfasts, and Peanut Days; he
4was a member of the Young Men's Club, the McLean County
5Optometric Society, where he served as president, the Masonic
6Lodge, and the Shrine Club; he was a member of the Second
7Presbyterian Church; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and
8the Illinois State University Redbirds; he provided optometric
9services to many of the ISU sports teams; he looked forward to
10attending as many football and basketball games as possible;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bob Kennett was preceded in death by his parents;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Kennett is survived by his wife of 60 years,
15Dorothy; his sons, Steve (Kendra), Jon (Anne), and Greg; his
16grandchildren, Emery, Andrew, Matt, Megan, Freddy, Audrey,
17Alex, and Casey; his sister, Marlene (Bud) Baumhover; his
18nieces and nephews; his many loving friends; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Dr. Robert F. "Bob" Kennett OD and extend our sincere
22condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
23him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Bob Kennett as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
