SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of E. Philip Fager Jr. of Murphysboro, who passed away on January 23, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Philip Fager Jr. was born in the Old Zion part of Somerset Township to Ernest P. Fager and Alice (Mileur) Fager on April 28, 1922; he joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served his country until 1945; he was awarded the Purple Heart; he married his first wife Geraldine "Gerry" O'Guinn at the First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro on March 30, 1947, and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1994; he later married Elizabeth Williams at the First Lutheran Church of Murphysboro on October 7, 1995, and she survives; and

WHEREAS, Alongside his brothers, Philip Fager Jr. owned and operated Fager Brothers Construction from 1954 to 1980; they worked throughout southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Philip Fager Jr. was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church of Murphysboro; he was also a member of the Carpenter's Union Local #638; and

WHEREAS, Philip Fager Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Danny, E.J., Victor, and Robert Fager; and his sister, Clarice Arbeiter; and

WHEREAS, Philip Fager Jr. is survived by his children, Wayne Fager, Dennis (Nancy) Fager, Barbara (Ron) Hansen, Mark (Donna) Fager, and Arthur (Catherine) Fager; his 11 grandchildren, Eric (Emily) Fager, Rachel (Kent) Kreuger, Nathan (Kristin) Fager, Janelle (Jason) Pulcher, Benjamin Fager, Todd (Sarah) Fager, Melissa Korando, Nicholaus (Heather) Korando, Zachary (Tiffany) Fager, Adam (Amanda) Fager, and Elizabeth Fager; and his 22 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of E. Philip Fager Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Philip Fager Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
