SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have
4given their lives in service to their communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On March 30, 2019, Illinois State Police Trooper
6Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Ellis was on duty in his squad car
7traveling home on Interstate 94 westbound near milepost 16.75
8in Green Oaks when a wrong-way driver, who was traveling
9eastbound in the westbound lanes, struck him head on; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Trooper Ellis was an 11-year veteran of Illinois
11State Police District 15 in Downers Grove; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Trooper Ellis was born in Macomb on January 10,
131983; he served in the U.S. Army and lived in Antioch with his
14family; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Trooper Ellis was preceded in death by his
16grandparents and Louis and Keith Ellis and Harry Irvin
17Nicholson and Geraldine Tournear Kindhart; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Trooper Ellis is survived by his wife of nine
19years, Stacy Ann Voight Ellis; his daughters, Kaylee Ann, and
20Zoe Olivia Ellis; his parents, Debra Ann Nicholson and Terry

1(Cindy) Ellis; his brother, Keith Ellis; and his in-laws, Rick
2and Julie Voight; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of road on
6Interstate 94 from mile marker 16.50 to mile marker 17 as the
7"Trooper Gerald W. Ellis Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority is
9requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State
10and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving
11notice of the name "Trooper Gerald W. Ellis Memorial Highway";
12and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Trooper Ellis and the Chairman of
15the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.
