HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maya Seante' Powell of Chicago, who passed away on September 29, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Maya Powell was born to Stevie and Claudia Powell in Chicago on September 8, 1989; she graduated from Kenwood Academy High School; she attended Roosevelt University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; and

WHEREAS, Maya Powell had a passion for basketball and music; when her father became a pastor, she became a member of Second Mount Calvary and then Believer's Covenant and was a part of the choir, the youth ministry, and the Sunday school; she enjoyed fun times with her Auntie Rhonda and her cousins, as well as her nieces, nephews and younger cousins; she spent time writing music with her siblings and cousins, occasionally creating a catchy tune that showcased her comedic side; she had a quick wit, an infectious smile, and a kind and compassionate spirit; and

WHEREAS, Maya Powell was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Barbara Powell, and her maternal grandfather, Claude L. King; and

WHEREAS, Maya Powell is survived by her parents; her siblings, Daphne Marie (Darius) Washington, Stevie Maurice (Tracie), and Marcus Andre Powell; her maternal grandmother, Laura E. King; her nephews, Stevie and Sebastian; her nieces, Savannah and Solana; her special godchildren, Josiah and De-mon; and her aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Maya Seante' Powell and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maya Powell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
