HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maya
4Seante' Powell of Chicago, who passed away on September 29,
52020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Maya Powell was born to Stevie and Claudia Powell
7in Chicago on September 8, 1989; she graduated from Kenwood
8Academy High School; she attended Roosevelt University and
9Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Maya Powell had a passion for basketball and
11music; when her father became a pastor, she became a member of
12Second Mount Calvary and then Believer's Covenant and was a
13part of the choir, the youth ministry, and the Sunday school;
14she enjoyed fun times with her Auntie Rhonda and her cousins,
15as well as her nieces, nephews and younger cousins; she spent
16time writing music with her siblings and cousins, occasionally
17creating a catchy tune that showcased her comedic side; she had
18a quick wit, an infectious smile, and a kind and compassionate
19spirit; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Maya Powell was preceded in death by her paternal
21grandparents, John and Barbara Powell, and her maternal
22grandfather, Claude L. King; and

1    WHEREAS, Maya Powell is survived by her parents; her
2siblings, Daphne Marie (Darius) Washington, Stevie Maurice
3(Tracie), and Marcus Andre Powell; her maternal grandmother,
4Laura E. King; her nephews, Stevie and Sebastian; her nieces,
5Savannah and Solana; her special godchildren, Josiah and
6De-mon; and her aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and
7friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Maya Seante' Powell and extend our
11sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
12and loved her; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Maya Powell as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
