HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Eddie Lee Jackson Sr. of East St. Louis, who passed away on December 18, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Jackson was born to Aaron Jackson and Fannie Mae Jackson in Canalou, Missouri on July 14, 1949; he graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School in 1967; he married Pearlie Mae Rich in October of 1969; he attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and earned a bachelor's degree in Education and later a master's degree focused on City Planning; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Jackson started his political career in East St. Louis in the early 1970s and served on the East St. Louis City Council for more than 30 years; after retiring from East St. Louis School district 189 where he was a science teacher and gifted administrator, he served in the Illinois House of Representatives for 8 years, from 2009 to 2017, representing the 114th District; and

WHEREAS, Eddie attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for more than 50 years; he was a gentle, kind, and quiet man who taught his family to lead by example; he was a mentor to many and worked throughout his life to make East St. Louis a better place for all; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Jackson was preceded in death by his mother; his father; his sister, Bernice Vales; his grandson, Tramell Jackson; and his granddaughter, Andersen Elise Hicks; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Jackson is survived by his loving wife, Pearlie; his two children, Eddie (Shantell) Jackson Jr. and Emeka (Demarius) Jackson-Hicks; and his host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eddie Lee Jackson Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eddie Jackson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
