HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House are saddened to
3learn of the death of Fred Moyers of Mounds, who passed away on
4August 13, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fred Moyers was born to Thomas Oren and Lena Irena
6(Hayden) Moyers in Mound City on September 20, 1923; he married
7Helen Tally on February 6, 1943; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Fred Moyers was inducted into the Army on March 2,
91943; he was trained as a solider and then as an engineer and a
10top turret gunner on a B-26 Air Force bomber; in 1944, he
11joined the 9th Air Force 394 Bomb Group, 587 Bomb Squadron in
12England to prepare for the Normandy Invasion; on D-Day, he and
13his group first bombed gun positions at Cherbourg and then
14struck communications, fuel supplies, and strong points in
15support of the Normandy Campaign; he took part in the Battle of
16the Bulge in December 1944 through January 1945; he flew over
17enemy Germany for eight months and was shot down on his 45th
18mission; he subsequently lived with the Germans for three
19months; for his service, he was awarded the European African
20Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, two
21overseas service bars, an air medal, and six oak leaf clusters;
22he was honorably discharged from the service on September 6,
231945; and

1    WHEREAS, After his service, Fred became a certified
2entomologist; he worked for Union Carbide for 17 years and was
3the owner and operator of Moyers Termite Control; he was also a
4licensed real estate agent in Illinois and Missouri and served
5as Pulaski County Circuit Clerk for 25 years until his
6retirement; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Fred Moyers served as a board member at the Mounds
8First United Methodist Church; he was also a lifetime member of
9over 75 years at the VFW in Mounds; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Fred Moyers always loved learning about new
11things; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fred Moyers was preceded in death by his parents
13and his sister, Gladys Louise Smith; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Fred Moyers is survived by his wife, Helen; his
15daughter, Emily Jiran; his son, Brian (Ronna) Moyers; his
16granddaughters, Jaymie Nunnery, Racheal Robison, and Sarah
17McLemore; his grandson, Christian Howell; his
18great-grandchildren, Brian Nunnery, Eli Nunnery, Jack
19McLemore, Luke McLemore, Andrew McLemore, Kate McLemore, and
20Ellie Howell; his many nieces and nephews; and his other
21relatives; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Fred Moyers and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Fred Moyers as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
