HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin are nine-year-old, third-grade students from Churchill School in Homewood; and

WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin have been dedicated Brownies in Girl Scout Troop #65113; and

WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin have been socially conscious from the time they could talk; they have taken up the cause of struggling people whenever they can; and

WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin lent their voices to issues affecting marginalized citizens who have had encounters with law enforcement at some point in their past; and

WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin boldly stood before the Cook County Commissioners and testified about the effects that their family feels from mistakes their father made long before they were born; and

WHEREAS, Sophia O'Quin delivered a speech to the Cook County Commissioners encouraging them to "look past the surface, dig deeper, and see what lies beneath," stressing the importance of looking beyond the outer factors of a person; and

WHEREAS, In remarks prepared for the Cook County Board President's press conference, Abigail O'Quin shared her perspective that "shelter is your home, and your home is where your kids will grow, and if you have kids you would know that you want what's best for your kids"; and

WHEREAS, In remarks prepared for the same press conference, Sophia O'Quin said that "Cook County is already a safe place, and a place that shows an astounding amount of pulchritude, but you just made a decision that just made Cook County much more of a refuge"; and

WHEREAS, As possibly the youngest registered speakers to speak on a proposed amendment, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin stood with bold determination and poise, delivered their official remarks, and possibly swayed some last-minute decisions with their passion and determination; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Abigail and Sophia O'Quin on their courage in speaking up for the marginalized people across Cook County; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Abigail and Sophia O'Quin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
