HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin are nine-year-old,
3third-grade students from Churchill School in Homewood; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin have been dedicated
5Brownies in Girl Scout Troop #65113; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin have been socially
7conscious from the time they could talk; they have taken up the
8cause of struggling people whenever they can; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin lent their voices to
10issues affecting marginalized citizens who have had encounters
11with law enforcement at some point in their past; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin boldly stood before the
13Cook County Commissioners and testified about the effects that
14their family feels from mistakes their father made long before
15they were born; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sophia O'Quin delivered a speech to the Cook
17County Commissioners encouraging them to "look past the
18surface, dig deeper, and see what lies beneath," stressing the
19importance of looking beyond the outer factors of a person; and

1    WHEREAS, In remarks prepared for the Cook County Board
2President's press conference, Abigail O'Quin shared her
3perspective that "shelter is your home, and your home is where
4your kids will grow, and if you have kids you would know that
5you want what's best for your kids"; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In remarks prepared for the same press conference,
7Sophia O'Quin said that "Cook County is already a safe place,
8and a place that shows an astounding amount of pulchritude, but
9you just made a decision that just made Cook County much more
10of a refuge"; and
 
11    WHEREAS, As possibly the youngest registered speakers to
12speak on a proposed amendment, Abigail and Sophia O'Quin stood
13with bold determination and poise, delivered their official
14remarks, and possibly swayed some last-minute decisions with
15their passion and determination; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we commend Abigail and Sophia O'Quin on their courage in
19speaking up for the marginalized people across Cook County; and
20be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22presented to Abigail and Sophia O'Quin as an expression of our
