HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of Rochester on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of its incorporation; and

WHEREAS, Rochester was settled in 1819 by James and Jane Murphy McCoy and incorporated in 1869; it has had continuous population growth for the past 200 years; and

WHEREAS, At its inception, Rochester was primarily an agricultural community; it has had an ebb and flow of businesses throughout its history; and

WHEREAS, Rochester embraces and values a vital educational system and fosters an environment that supports family, education, sports, and the fine arts; and

WHEREAS, Rochester provides the opportunity for all ages to engage in diverse clubs and organizations and is home to a variety of churches; and

WHEREAS, Rochester boasts outstanding police and fire departments, a public library, a public park, an arboretum, a bike path, and an historical village; and

WHEREAS, Rochester is a sesquicentennial community and will be officially capping its year-long celebration on the weekend of September 13, 14, and 15, 2019; it has gathered the stories and artifacts reflecting its heritage; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Village of Rochester on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of its incorporation, and we wish it many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Rochester Village President as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
