HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mitchell Tapscott on his
4recent chess achievements; and
 
5    WHEREAS, At the 2019 Illinois Elementary School
6Association State Chess Tournament, Mitchell Tapscott was
7undefeated with seven wins; his last game saw him face Jack
8Ewing from Normal Parkside, a school with 12 times the
9enrollment of Mitchell's school; Mitchell won in a hard fought
1058-move game and finished the year with a record of 18 wins and
110 losses; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Prior to this year's state tournament, Mitchell
13Tapscott won 1st place at the Morton Tournament, the Brimfield
14Tournament, and the Franklin Tournament, where he defeated last
15years' 7th grade State champion on the way to his victory; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mitchell Tapscott is from Jacksonville; his
17parents are Matthew and Heather Tapscott and he has three older
18sisters, Brooke Hipkins, Morgan Coop, and Sydney Tapscott; he
19started to play chess in 2nd grade; he also plays basketball,
20is a member of the scholastic bowl team, and enjoys watching
21movies, playing board games with his family, and playing his
22Xbox with friends; and

1    WHEREAS, Mitchell Tapscott's team also has a history of
2success; the Franklin Middle School 7th grade chess team
3finished in the top three at this year's state tournament, a
4feat the team has accomplished for three years in a row;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Mitchell Tapscott on his recent chess
9achievements, and we wish him many more successful years; and
10be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Mitchell Tapscott as a symbol of our respect and
13esteem.
