HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Mitchell Tapscott on his recent chess achievements; and

WHEREAS, At the 2019 Illinois Elementary School Association State Chess Tournament, Mitchell Tapscott was undefeated with seven wins; his last game saw him face Jack Ewing from Normal Parkside, a school with 12 times the enrollment of Mitchell's school; Mitchell won in a hard fought 58-move game and finished the year with a record of 18 wins and 0 losses; and

WHEREAS, Prior to this year's state tournament, Mitchell Tapscott won 1st place at the Morton Tournament, the Brimfield Tournament, and the Franklin Tournament, where he defeated last years' 7th grade State champion on the way to his victory; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Tapscott is from Jacksonville; his parents are Matthew and Heather Tapscott and he has three older sisters, Brooke Hipkins, Morgan Coop, and Sydney Tapscott; he started to play chess in 2nd grade; he also plays basketball, is a member of the scholastic bowl team, and enjoys watching movies, playing board games with his family, and playing his Xbox with friends; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Tapscott's team also has a history of success; the Franklin Middle School 7th grade chess team finished in the top three at this year's state tournament, a feat the team has accomplished for three years in a row; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mitchell Tapscott on his recent chess achievements, and we wish him many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mitchell Tapscott as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
