SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
60 ILCS 1/45-57 new

    Amends the Township Code. Provides that each political party shall, for the regular township election for 2021, nominate its candidates for township offices by primary election in accordance with the general election law rather than by caucus. Repeals the provisions on January 1, 2023. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Township Code is amended by adding Section
545-57 as follows:
 
6    (60 ILCS 1/45-57 new)
7    Sec. 45-57. primary caucuses; 2021 primary election.
8    (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, each
9political party shall, for the regular township election for
102021, nominate its candidates for township offices by primary
11election in accordance with the general election law rather
12than in the manner provided in Sections 45-5 through 45-55.
13    (b) This Section is repealed on January 1, 2023.
 
14    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15becoming law.
