Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Creates the Culturally Competent Healthcare Demonstration Program. Defines "culturally competent health care". Provides that the Program shall establish models that reflect best practices in culturally competent health care and that expand the delivery of culturally competent health care in Illinois. Provides guidelines for the administration of the Program. Effective immediately.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Makes changes to a subsection concerning legislative findings. Eliminates a provision elaborating on the purpose of culturally competent health care practices. Provides that the Culturally Competent Health Care Demonstration Program shall consist of an evaluation of the effect of the demonstration grants in improving the quality of health care for minorities (instead of racial and ethnic minorities). Gives the Department of Public Health discretion in contracting with a vendor to conduct the evaluation and provide support for the collaborative learning project. Makes other changes.
