Synopsis As Introduced
Creates the Community Youth Employment Act. Provides that, subject to appropriation, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity shall administer a competitive grant program to provide 2,500 youths with stipends and supervision over a 6-week summer work period. Sets forth criteria for receiving grants under the Act. Provides a budget for the use of grant moneys awarded. Effective immediately.

House Floor Amendment No. 2
Replaces everything after the enacting clause with provisions similar to those of the introduced bill, except for the following: increases the size, duration, and scope of the program and makes it statewide; provides that not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions, and governmental entities may also be grantees; makes numerous changes in criteria for participation, eligible activities, eligible costs, and responsibilities of grantees. Effective immediately.
