Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Human Rights Act. Defines "order of protection status" as a person's status as being a person protected or previously protected under an order of protection issued under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986 or an order of protection issued by a court of another state. Provides that discrimination against a person because of his or her order of protection status constitutes unlawful discrimination under the Act. Effective January 1, 2008.

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986. Prohibits discrimination against a person because of his or her "order of protection status" in connection with employment, real estate transactions, access to financial credit, or the availability of public accommodations. Defines "order of protection status" as a person's status as being protected or previously protected under an order of protection or a similar order from another state. Provides that a person who is discriminated against in this manner may bring an action for legal or equitable relief against the person or entity that engaged in the discrimination. Effective January 1, 2008.
