Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank Act. Provides that the director of a clinical laboratory licensed in this State shall provide that when the laboratory tests a specimen to determine the serum creatinine level for a patient age 18 or older, as ordered or prescribed by a health care professional authorized to make such an order or prescription, the laboratory shall also calculate the patient's glomerular filtration rate. Provides that when ordering or prescribing such an order or prescription, the health care professional must provide the patient's age, gender, and race. Provides that the laboratory shall include the patient's glomerular filtration rate with its report to the health care professional. Provides that these provisions do not apply to clinical trials and research.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank Act with provisions substantially similar to those of Senate Bill 2510, but with changes that include the following: (1) makes various grammatical and stylistic changes; (2) provides for calculation of a patient's "estimated" glomerular filtration rate instead of simply the glomerular filtration rate; and (3) deletes the requirement that a health care professional provide the patient's race when placing an order or prescribing a prescription.
