Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Illinois Commercial Transportation Law of the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that every rail carrier operating in this State transporting firearms or firearm ammunition through a municipality with a population of more than 1,000,000 inhabitants shall notify the local municipal law enforcement agency at least 24 hours prior to transporting the firearms or firearm ammunition through the municipality.
Senate Committee Amendment No. 1 Provides that a rail carrier who violates the provision is guilty of a business offense punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 for a first violation and up to $2,000 for a second or subsequent violation (rather than a Class C misdemeanor).
