Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code. Provides that if a child might be eligible to receive services from the Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education-Roosevelt, then the school district shall notify the parents or guardian of the existence of the center and the services it provides. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

This legislation would give the perception of preference by the state and by the district for placement of students in separate, residential facilities. This preference is at odds with both our requirements under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and with our requirements under the Corey H. Settlement Agreement.
