SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Geraldine Green Nekrosius, popularly
4known as Gerry, who passed away on September 16, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerry was born on July 29, 1948 in New York City,
6New York; her parents were Dr. James L. and Margaret Green; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gerry was raised on Long Island; she later moved
8to Chicago to study journalism and English at Northwestern
9University, where she met her husband of 47 years, Donald X.
10Nekrosius; after marrying, she and her husband spent seven
11years teaching, traveling, camping, and exploring America and
12Canada before settling in Oak Park to raise their children; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerry devoted her life to helping others as an
14educator, a counselor; she served as staff and as a volunteer
15at the Hephzibah Children's Association and the OPRF Food
16Pantry, where she became known for her patient, caring, and
17generous spirit; she was a volunteer at Hospice Touch in Tomah,
18Wisconsin; she also supported many organizations such as the
19Camp AmeriKids Cabin Challenge, which gives children living
20with HIV/AIDS and sickle cell anemia a chance to go to Camp
21AmeriKids; and

1    WHEREAS, Gerry was a vigorous champion of women and women's
2rights; she cared for everyone around her as a mother and
3grandmother not only to her own family, but also to the
4children she worked with through Hephzibah; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerry enjoyed reading, gardening, visiting
6museums, and the symphony and theatre; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gerry is survived by her husband, her sister,
8Leslyn Green Rigoni (Donald), and her children, Walt (Juliana),
9Samuel (Lee) and Margaret (Jo), and her grandchildren Gabriel,
10Amelie, Violet, Alta, Walter, and Luca; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Geraldine Green
14Nekrosius; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Geraldine Nekrosius as an expression
17of our sympathy.
