SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Anjuli Seth Nayak of Chicago, who
4passed away on November 22, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Nayak was born in Kanpur, India to Bhagwan Das
6and Krishna Seth on September 27, 1954; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Nayak moved to Bloomington-Normal in 1987 to
8establish her medical practice, where she specialized in the
9field of allergy, asthma, and immunology; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Nayak was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic
11Leukemia (ALL) in December of 2010 and committed her own life
12to the research and treatment of this life-threatening disease;
13she volunteered to participate in experimental treatment
14trials of ALL; she participated in the first adult patient
15group with ALL to be re-treated with their own genetically
16engineered immune cells to treat the disease; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 2015, Dr. Nayak created the Anjuli Seth Nayak
18Professorship in Leukemia at The University of Chicago; her
19treating physician, Dr. Wendy Stock, is the first holder of the
20endowed professorship; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Nayak was preceded in death by her parents;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Nayak is survived by her brother, Sudir
4(Indira) Seth; her sisters, Manjula (Sushil) Khanna, and Mridul
5(Anil) Sekhri; her sons, Dr. David (Alicia) Nayak, Dr. Zachary
6(Marcia) Nayak, and Dr. Luke (Rachel) Nayak; her grandson,
7David Nayak Jr.; and her granddaughter, Lily Edith Nayak;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Dr. Anjuli Seth Nayak, and extend our sincere condolences to
12her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Dr. Nayak as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
