SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Carol Joanne Ontis of Alton, who passed
4away on November 14, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carol Ontis was born in Alton to Henry and Anna
6(Fluck) Schenk on January 14, 1934; she attended St. Patrick
7Church and School in Alton and graduated from Marquette
8Catholic High School in 1952; she married Dale Ontis in Alton
9on June 20, 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Carol Ontis first worked for Millers Mutual
11Insurance; she retired from the Alton School District after
12many years of cooking for children at numerous schools,
13including East Jr., West Jr., and Thomas Jefferson schools; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Carol Ontis loved feeding people and volunteered
15for years as a cook, seamstress, chaperone, and stand-in mom
16for the Colonial Fife and Drum Corps; she was a member of the
17Red Hat Society and enjoyed her tea times and lunches with the
18ladies; she was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church
19and volunteered at St. Mary's School in the school library and
20cooking for funeral luncheons; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Carol Ontis was preceded in death by her parents;

1her husband, Dale; her grandchild, Stacy Varble; her
2son-in-law, Rick Varble; and her brothers, Ronald and Jay
3Schenk; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Carol Ontis is survived by her daughters, Diane
5Varble (Pete Herren), and Tricia (Steve) Dawson; her sons,
6Terry (Rhonda) Ontis, Tim Ontis, Tom (Gina) Ontis, Tony Ontis,
7and Todd Ontis; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
8many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and neighbors; and her
9wiener dog whom she loved so much; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Carol Joanne Ontis, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Carol Ontis as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
