SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John S. Matijevich of North Chicago, who
4passed away on November 3, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Matijevich was born in North Chicago to Mike
6and Anna Matijevich on December 25, 1927 and was a lifelong
7resident; he served in the United States Army; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Matijevich served in the Illinois House of
9Representatives for 26 years, retiring in 1992; he was the
10Assistant Majority Leader under Michael Madigan and served on
11many other committees during his time as a State
12Representative; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Matijevich was the Police Magistrate for the
14City of North Chicago and served as the Police Chief of North
15Chicago; he wrote a column for the North Chicago Tribune and
16later for the Lake County Journal and Bob Schroeder Publishing;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Matijevich was a former member of Holy Family
19Parish in North Chicago; he was a member of the Croatian
20Fraternal Union Lodge 848 and the Knights of Columbus; he was a
21lifetime member of the Moose and an honorary member of the

1Elks; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Matijevich was an avid Chicago Cubs and
3passed away just after watching them win the World Series; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Matijevich was preceded in death by his
5parents; his brother, Louis Matijevich; and his sisters,
6Katherine Matijevich, Mary Matijevich, and Frances VanDyke;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Matijevich is survived by his wife of 60
9years, Agnes (Pavelick); his son, Robert Matijevich; his
10sister, Rose Matijevich; his niece, Anne (John) Walin; and his
11nephews, David and Michael VanDyke; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14John S. Matijevich, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of John Matijevich as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
