SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease
3among children in the United States between infancy and age 15;
4one in five children will die from the disease; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The leading causes of childhood cancer are largely
6unknown; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The level of support and funding for childhood
8cancer research has not reached the same level as other cancer
9awareness campaigns; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The concept for the G9 was created by Annie (only
1111-years-old at the time) who saw the nation turn pink in
12October for breast cancer; she became determined to turn the
13world "Gold in September" for kids battling cancer; G9 is a
14national effort to raise awareness and financial support for
15childhood cancer research and the development of new
16treatments; and
 
17    WHEREAS, A recent proclamation signed by President Obama
18declared September of 2016 as National Childhood Cancer
19Awareness Month; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage all
2citizens, government agencies, private businesses, and
3non-profit organizations to join together in activities that
4will increase awareness and prevention of childhood cancer; and
5be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That we urge the United States Congress and
7President Obama to drastically increase the level of funding
8provided for childhood cancer research; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10presented to the American Cancer Fund for Children, the Kids
11Cancer Connection, President Barack Obama, United States
12Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and United States Senate
13Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
