SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Wayne L. Meece of Normal, who passed away
4on October 16, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wayne Meece was born in Monticello to James Elmer
6and Anna Willis Meece on September 23, 1934; he served in the
7United States Army from 1954 to 1957 in the 82nd Airborne; he
8attended Illinois State Normal University, where he was an All
9American quarterback; he graduated from Illinois State
10University (ISU) in 1960 and married Loretta J. Powell in
11Bloomington on October 23, 1964; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Wayne Meece was a general manager in the moving
13industry for many years; he was a head linesman for 20 years in
14the Big Ten; he officiated five bowl games - two Rose Bowls in
151986 and 1990, the Tangerine Bowl in 1978, the Liberty Bowl in
161983, and the Peach Bowl in 1991; he also officiated high
17school basketball, where he worked in the State Tournament
18Series on three different occasions; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Wayne Meece had a strong desire to mentor young
20officials in the profession; he was a member of the Illinois
21Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and was elected to the Illinois
22State University Hall of Fame in 1974; he was an observer for

1ISU for 25 years for basketball and football; he received the
2Stretch Miller Award from ISU in October 2010; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Wayne Meece was a member of Eastview Christian
4Church, where he sang in the choir and was the lead usher for
5over 25 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Wayne Meece was preceded in death by his parents;
7his brothers, Robert Meece, James Meece, George Meece, Lynn
8Meece, Raymond Meece, and Ralph Meece; and his sister, Mary
9Stone; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Wayne Meece is survived by his wife, Loretta; his
11children, Randy Clarke, Scot (Shannon) Meece, and Beth
12(Michael) Beauford; his grandchildren, Reed (Chanell) Clarke,
13Jordan Clarke, Lindsay (Paul) Craddock, Brock Meece, Blaise
14Beauford, and Lacey Beauford; his great-grandchildren, Ella
15and Beckett Craddock, and Story and Rush Clarke; and his
16sisters, Shirley (Dale) Turner, and Sandra Harris; therefore,
17be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Wayne L. Meece, and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
