SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dickey Ray Mizell of Granite City, who
4passed away on June 11, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was born in Metropolis to Donald O.
6"Pete" Mizell and Florence C. (Whalen) Dotson on September 20,
71943; he served his country from 1960 to 1962 in the United
8States Air Force and was united in marriage to Sandra Sue
9Jeffords on March 22, 1966; he and his family settled in
10Granite City in 1969; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell worked many years for Mercer-Thomas
12Mortuaries in Granite City; he served as a Madison County
13Deputy Coroner; he then went on to work as a Legal Investigator
14for the Talbert and Mallon Law Firm in Alton and the Williams
15and Caponi Law Firm in Belleville; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was a past Governor of the Granite
17City Moose Lodge 272; he was a former member of the National
18Association of Legal Investigators, the Granite City Jaycees,
19and AMVETS; he served as a Granite City Precinct Committeeman;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing,

1playing cards, and playing poker; he was known for his barbecue
2and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Days of Our Lives;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was preceded in death by his
5parents; his brother, Robert J. Mizell; his sister, Mary Helen
6Medley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles Leslie
7Jeffords and Rhudell Jeffords; his brothers-in-law, Berle Parr
8and Wesley Smithart; his niece, Brenda K. Worthen; and his
9nephews, Ricky and James Parmer; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell is survived by his wife of 50 years,
11Sandra; his sons, Tim Mizell and friend, Julie, Don Mizell and
12wife, Lesa, and Jason Mizell and wife, Jessica; Gary Sellers,
13who was like a son to him, and wife, Julie; his grandchildren,
14Noah, Isaiah, Amanda, Jaime, Kayla, Drew, Dillan, Brenna, and
15Leah; his sisters, Marcia K. Smithart and Stephanie Parr; his
16daughter-in-law, Debye Mizell; his sisters-in-law and
17brother-in-law, Patricia A. and Ellis Reynolds, and Mary E.
18Mizell and Howard Medley; and several nieces, nephews,
19great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore,
20be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Dickey Ray Mizell, and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Dickey Mizell as an expression of
