SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Village of Grayslake, in Lake County, is a
3beautiful, family-oriented community with a great spirit of
4service and pride; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Grayslake is a friendly community with a rich
6heritage and strong desire to help others; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Grayslake wishes to welcome and support its aging
8population, their families, caregivers, and friends with
9understanding and awareness of the aging process and inclusion
10within the community; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The first responders, the Grayslake Fire District
12and the Grayslake Police Department, have successfully
13completed training in April of 2016 and are the first adopters
14of a grassroots movement in making Grayslake a
15dementia-friendly community; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Proclaiming Grayslake as the first
17dementia-friendly community in Illinois will promote community
18pride and engage citizens in a warm and welcoming community
19movement; and
 
20    WHEREAS, This grassroots, community effort is receiving

1great support from local community businesses; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Grayslake restaurants, hair salons, financial
3institutions, legal institutions, and more will be known for
4their adoption of the dementia-friendly community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Grayslake would like to be known as the first
6dementia-friendly community of Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, This movement is a great example of community
8spirit for other Illinois communities to follow; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The people of Illinois and surrounding states are
10encouraged to visit Grayslake to experience a model community
11that welcomes and embraces those afflicted with dementia and
12offers acceptance and encouragement to families, caregivers,
13community members, and friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare Grayslake
16"Dementia-Friendly Community Day" to coincide with the
17Alzheimer's Association's "Longest Day of the Year"
18celebration on June 20, 2016, the summer solstice; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
