SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James C. Witt of Alton, who passed away
4on March 23, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Witt was born in Hartford to Marion and
6Julia Witt on August 19, 1926; he married Barbara R. Broadway
7on October 30, 1947; he served in the United States Army Air
8Corp from 1945 to 1947 during World War II; he served again
9from 1951 to 1953 in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Witt worked for Owens Illinois Glass in the
12machine shop in Godfrey for 40 years, retiring in 1986; and
 
13    WHEREAS, James Witt was a member of the Bethalto Masonic
14Lodge #406 for 60 years, serving 39 years as secretary; he was
15a grand lecturer for many years and a past master; he was also
16an honorary member of ten Lodges; and
 
17    WHEREAS, James Witt was preceded in death by his wife,
18Barbara; his parents; his daughter, Carla A. Schwegel; his
19sister, June Ellen Witt; and his brother, Aaron Dean Witt; and
 
20    WHEREAS, James Witt is survived by a daughter and

1son-in-law, Linda and Nick Otis Nichols; his two sons, James
2Alan Witt and Todd Witt; his son-in-law, Edward Schwegel; his
3grandchildren, Erin (Seth) Phillips, Matthew (Karin) Witt,
4Eric Schwegel, and Christopher Witt; his great-grandchildren,
5Ashlyn, Claire, Logan, Ian, Hannah, and Elise; his brothers,
6Marion Witt, Ray (Geraldine) Witt, Benjamin Witt, and Gary
7(Elaine) Witt; his two sisters-in-law, Caroline Witt and
8Bernice Broniec; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12James C. Witt, and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of James Witt as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
