SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gerard F. "Jerry" Idstein of McHenry, who
4passed away on March 5, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerard Idstein was born in Chicago to James H. and
6Margaret (Walsh) Idstein on May 26, 1926; he graduated from
7Lane Technical High School in Chicago and served in the United
8States Army during World War II in the South Pacific with the
932nd (Red Arrow) Division; he married Mary Julia Boarini at
10Immaculate Conception Church on April 22, 1950; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gerard Idstein owned Jim and Jerry's Hardware; he
12was also owner and operator of the Arbor Resort and Marina on
13Bluff Lake in Antioch; for 35 years, he was Building Manager of
14the Heritage Professional Building in Antioch; he served as
15President of the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Gerard Idstein enjoyed playing golf with the
17Johnsburg and Antioch Golf Leagues; he loved spending time on
18the water with family and friends on his pontoon boat; family
19vacations in Arkansas were the highlight of his life; he was
20also a fine woodworker and crafted many pieces of beautiful
21furniture; his family referred to him as "Jack of all
22trades-Master of All"; one of his greatest pleasures was being

1an usher at the 7 o'clock mass at St. John the Baptist Church;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gerard Idstein was preceded in death by his
4parents; his brother, James; and his sisters, Merikay and Anna
5Mae; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gerard Idstein is survived by his wife of 65
7years, Mary; his children, Marybeth (Rip) Edmundson, Jerry
8(Peggy), John (Debbie), Hugh (Peggy), and Peter; his
9grandchildren, Lara (Bill), Maria (John), Kevin (Amanda),
10Brian, Dan (Katie), Mary Ellen (Patrick), Megan (Jake),
11Patrick, Spencer (Crystal), Kyle (Elizabeth), Benjamin
12(Katie), and Timothy; his 13 great-grandchildren; his sister,
13Margaret (James) Boarini; and many other relatives; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Gerard F. "Jerry" Idstein, and extend our sincere condolences
18to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Gerard Idstein as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
