SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Gaylord Holub, formerly of Rockford,
4who passed away on January 31, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Holub was born in Rockford to Arthur J. and
6Marie K. (nee Donaldson) Holub on May 19, 1941; he graduated
7from Rockford East High School in 1959 and attended Drake
8University in Des Moines, Iowa and Rockford College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Holub worked for Rockford Blacktop and Holub
10and Associates, Ltd.; he served as an Alderman on the Rockford
11City Council; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Holub served as Director of the Rockford Area
13Chamber of Commerce, beginning in 1982; he was the first
14"activist" President of the organization and showed that
15government and business could accomplish a great deal if they
16worked together; under his leadership, the organization became
17nonpartisan and forged alliances between government and
18business, raising more than $1 million through the Council of
19100 to market the region; he opened an office in the Illinois
20World Trade Center to sell Rockford to the rest of the world;
21he helped the region get a U.S. Department of Commerce
22international trade office to help companies grow through

1exports; he reached out to local businesses by going to a
2different company every Wednesday for over 3 years; he was
3always open to new ideas and a visionary; he was innovative, a
4servant leader, a tremendous spokesperson for Rockford, and a
5very caring person; he also served as Vice-President of the
6Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Holub was active at Trinity and Zion Lutheran
8Churches; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Holub is survived by his children, Melissa
10(Tom) MacDonnell and Andrew (Kristen) Holub; his
11grandchildren, AJ and Elizabeth Holub and Johnny MacDonnell;
12and his brother, Joseph (Marcia) Holub; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15John Gaylord Holub, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of John Holub as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
