SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bette Jean Harris of Alton, who passed
4away on January 22, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bette Harris was born in Judsonia, Arkansas to
6Thomas G., Sr. and Lena (nee Jackson) Bailey on January 16,
71933; she married Wiley L. Harris, Jr. in Alton on October 10,
81953; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bette Harris worked for the Tri County Beauty
10Academy in Litchfield with her mother; she later worked as a
11cosmetology instructor for the J.B. Johnson Vocational School
12in Alton; she went back to school and completed her bachelor's
13degree in 1984 and became an English teacher at West Middle
14School, where she taught for 10 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bette Harris was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal
16Church, the Illinois Hairdresser Association, the Illinois
17Retired Teachers Association, the Alton Community Service
18League, and P.E.O. Chapter JZ; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bette Harris was preceded in death by her husband,
20Wiley; her parents; and her brother, Thomas Bailey, Jr.; and

1    WHEREAS, Bette Harris is survived by her daughter, Barbara
2Ann Bowen (Andy); her son, Thomas Wiley Harris (Judy Jones);
3her brother-in-law, Joseph Eugene Harris; her loving care
4giver, Viola Link, along with Tonya and Candace; therefore, be
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Bette Jean Harris, and extend our sincere condolences to her
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Bette Harris as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
