SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dennis DeToye; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dennis DeToye taught for over 35 years; he spent
5his entire teaching career as an art teacher and Art Department
6Chair at Edwardsville High School; and
 
7    WHEREAS, After retirement, Dennis DeToye would spend
8several hours a day, often long into the night, working on
9large-scale portraits; his paintings have hung in several
10galleries in the St. Louis region; he purchased close to 100
11pieces of student artwork, which he later donated back to
12Edwardsville High School; he and his wife filled their home
13with his work and the work of other local and regional artists;
14he was proud of the part he played in finding a home for the
15Edwardsville Art Center in Edwardsville High School and was
16humbled when the student gallery at the Center was named in his
17honor; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dennis DeToye served as Mayor of Edwardsville; he
19had a positive impact on the growth and development of
20Edwardsville and was especially proud that his name is on the
21plaque dedicating the new wing of the Edwardsville Public
22Library; and

1    WHEREAS, Dennis DeToye loved ESIC Baptist Church and served
2as deacon and trustee there for years; at various times in his
3life, he was also an airplane pilot, a football coach, a
4community theater performer, a Student Council Advisor, a world
5traveler, an unpublished novelist, a bicyclist, an activist,
6and a best friend; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dennis DeToye was the best husband and best friend
8to his wife, Lela; he was a devoted and loving father to his
9daughters, Anne and Kate; he was a role model for his
10sons-in-law, Cody Moore and Zac Friederich; he was a proud and
11doting grandfather for Emma and Joey Moore and Olive
12Friederich; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Dennis DeToye, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dennis DeToye as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
