SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Robert D. Webb of Mattoon, who passed
4away on October 5, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Webb was born in Waggoner on April 1, 1928 to
6Walter and Juanita Webb; he received his Bachelor of Science
7from Illinois State University and his Master of Administration
8and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois; he married Lourdine
9Armitage on June 17, 1950 at Blessed Sacrament Church in
10Springfield; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Webb began his educational career as an
12administrator in Harvel and Raymond, becoming Superintendent
13of Schools for the Shelbyville School District and the
14Panhandle School District; he was one of the founders of Lake
15Land College in Mattoon, serving as Vice-President from 1967 to
161972 and as President from 1979 to 1984; he served as
17Vice-President and Chairman of the Board for Johnston Super
18Markets, Inc. in Shelbyville from 1984 to 2000; most recently,
19he was Vice-Chairman of the Eastern Illinois University Board
20of Trustees; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Webb was an avid runner, golfer, painter,
22master gardener, and community leader; he served as Chairman

1and a member of the Coles County Board, Chairman of the Coles
2County Democratic Party, President of the Mattoon Chamber of
3Commerce, founding member and Chairman of the East Central
4Illinois Development Commission, a member of the Sarah Bush
5Lincoln Health Center Board, a member of the Coles Together
6Board, and a member and past President of the Shelbyville and
7Mattoon Rotary clubs; in 2005, he and his wife were selected as
8International Scholars by Rotary International; together they
9went to Thailand, where he served as a visiting professor at
10the University of Chiang Mai; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Webb was preceded in death by his parents and
12his brothers, Roger and Don; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Webb is survived by his wife, Lourdine; his
14children, Linda Culberson and Robert, Jr.; his 4
15granddaughters, Elizabeth (Alan) Pickerill, Melissa (Jack)
16Peavler, Antonia Webb, and Alexandra Webb; his 3
17great-grandchildren, Katherine and Jack Pickerill and Ryne
18Peavler; and his brothers, Bruce and Lynn; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Dr. Robert D. Webb, and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Dr. Webb as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
