SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Nathan Horton of Maryville, who
4passed away on August 31, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Horton was born on December 11, 1931 in
6East St. Louis; his parents were Homer and Dorothy (nee Miller)
7Horton; he married Marcella Jerome on September 16, 1952; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Richard Horton retired as a superintendent from
9the Ethyl Corporation in Sauget in 1994, after over 40 years of
10service; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Richard Horton was a stand-out baseball player for
12East St. Louis Senior High's class of 1949; he moved on to play
13in the old East St. Louis city leagues, where he was known for
14his power at the plate, arm strength, and overall speed; his
15athleticism led to signing with the St. Louis Cardinals farm
16system, where he played for 3 years until his commitment to his
17country; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Richard Horton honorably served for 4 years in the
19United States Navy aboard the USS Wasp, USS Champlain, and USS
20Boxer; and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Horton was a member of SS. Peter and Paul
2Catholic Church in Collinsville; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Richard Horton was preceded in death by his
4parents; a brother, Robert A. Horton; and a sister, Betsy L.
5Horton; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Richard Horton is survived by his wife, Marcella;
76 children, Kenneth (Christine) Horton, Kelly (David)
8Stelmach, Patrick (Katherine Traubitz) Horton, Deborah
9(William) Moder, Stacie (Kim Castro) Horton, and Mary (Guy)
10Santen; 14 grandchildren, Jessica (Andrew) Ropicki, Lindsey
11(Aaron) Wise, Nathan (Anastasia) Horton, Stefanie (Daniel)
12Pier, Kendra Cunningham, Kyle (Katherine) Cunningham, Eric
13Shockley, Kimberly (Christopher Haas) Horton, Kayla
14(Christopher Jennings) Horton, Mariah, Ivy, and Libby Horton,
15and Kelley and Sarah Napier; and 13 great-grandchildren;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
19family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard Nathan Horton;
20and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Richard Horton as an expression of
