SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Neal W. Schwartzkopf of Alton, who passed
4away on August 1, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf was born in St. Louis, Missouri
6on January 31, 1926 to Clarence and Marie (nee Bladt)
7Schwartzkopf; he attended Alton public schools and graduated
8from Alton High in 1944; after graduation, he enlisted in the
9United States Army Air Corps, where he gained the rank of Staff
10Sergeant with the 498th Bomb Group, 875th Bomb Squad, and
11Regiment 73rd Wing; he was a tailgunner with the B29 Flying
12Fortress, stationed in Saipan; he returned home in 1946 and
13enrolled in Shurtleff College (SIU Alton), where he earned a
14bachelor's degree in business; in 1947, he married Kathleen
15Fahrig; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf spent years working for
17Standard Duplicators; he then established the Schwartzkopf
18Printing Co. in 1972 as a family business; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf was a lifelong member of St.
20Mary's Parish in Alton, where he was on the parish board and
21sang in the choir; he loved music and played both the clarinet
22and saxophone; he played the clarinet in the Alton Community

1Band and the New Horizons Band in Alton; while living in Fort
2Meyers, Florida, he played in the Lee County Community Band and
3the Sanibel Island Band; he was a longtime member of Alton
4Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308 and was a former member of
5the American Legion in Fort Meyers; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After the passing of his wife, Kathleen, Neal
7Schwartzkopf married Jane Moylan in November of 1999; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf was preceded in death by his
9parents; his first wife, of over 50 years, Katie; his 2 sons,
10Mark and Tom; his grandson, David Schroeder; and his
11son-in-law, Rich Ogburn; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Neal Schwartzkopf is survived by his second wife,
13Jane (nee Moylan); his 3 daughters, Christine (Michael)
14Galligan, Teresa (Michael) Dressel, and Amy Ogburn; his son,
15Jim (Donna) Schwartzkopf; his daughter-in-law, Marie (Mark)
16Schwartzkopf; his 4 stepchildren, Michael (Suzie) Moylan,
17Larry Moylan, Kathleen Buck, and Connie (Bob) Schneider; his 29
18grandchildren; and his 19 great-grandchildren; therefore, be

20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Neal W. Schwartzkopf, and extend our sincere condolences to his
