SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The history of combat infantrymen traces back
3before the beginning of recorded history, and they continue to
4serve a vital role today; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Combat infantrymen have served the United States
6in numerous wars since the 1700s; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The infantryman is the basic combat soldier and
8the backbone of the United States Army; and
 
9    WHEREAS, There have been numerous special types of infantry
10units whose organizations and equipment differ from regular
11infantry divisions, such as parachute and glider infantry,
12mountain infantry, and armored infantry; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During basic training for the military, men and
14women learn the job of an infantryman in a squad to better
15protect their lives and the lives of many others; the
16infantryman must endure long periods of exposure to weather,
17eat his food cold, go long periods without sleeping or bathing,
18and may fight for months, unharmed, while his comrades are
19killed or wounded one by one; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The job of an infantryman is one of the toughest

1is in war, as they do the toughest fighting over the longest
2period of time; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the date
5of October 27, 2015 as Combat Infantryman Day in the State of
6Illinois and urge all Illinoisans to observe and pay tribute to
7all infantryman who have served our country, both past and
8present.
