SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Michael "Tuna" McElroy of Decatur, who
4passed away on July 17, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael McElroy was born in Aurora on March 2,
61952 to Dick and Betty McElroy; he graduated from St. Teresa
7High School in 1970 and went on to receive an associate's
8degree from Danville Area Community College; he married Lynn
9Tuttle on June 21, 1980 in Danville; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Michael McElroy served as the Vice-President of
11Skeff Distributing Company; he served on Decatur's City Council
12from 2003 through 2009, and as Mayor of Decatur for the past 6
13years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Michael McElroy was a member of Holy Family
15Catholic Church; he served on the board of directors for the
16Association of Beer Distributors of Illinois, the Illinois
17Municipal League, the YMCA, Friends of St. Mary's, the St.
18Teresa Development Board, the Summer Start Festival, the
19Knights of Columbus, and the Danville Area Convention and
20Visitors' Bureau; he was past President of the Danville
21Jaycess, past United States JCI Senator, and former State
22Muscular Dystrophy Chair; and

1    WHEREAS, Michael McElroy was preceded in death by his
2parents; his in-laws, Jim and Ginny Tuttle; and his sister,
3Anne McElroy; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Michael McElroy is survived by wife of 35 years,
5Lynn; his son, Matt (Christina); his siblings, Pat, Tim
6(Leslie), and Ellen; his brother-in-law, Lee Tuttle; his nieces
7and nephews, Hilary and Colin Runion, Conor, Brennan, and Dixie
8McElroy, Byrnes Kenworth, and Colleen (Jarid) Thompson and
9great-niece, Remi; Hayden Athey; Greg (Annie) and Maggie
10Tuttle; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Michael "Tuna" McElroy, and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Michael McElroy as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
