SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David P. "Dave" Benton of Champaign, who
4passed away on May 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Benton was born in Buffalo, New York on
6September 19, 1962 to Donald and Anna Ricci Benton; he was
7raised in Addison and received his bachelor's degree in
8broadcast news from Northern Illinois University; he married
9Teresa "Terri" Ware on April 26, 1986 in DeKalb; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dave Benton worked in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Wausau,
11Wisconsin; and Minot, North Dakota; he joined WCIA3 in 2005;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dave Benton was named "Most Beloved TV
14Personality" in 1999; he received a Midwest Broadcast
15Journalists Association (MBJA, formerly the NBNA) first-place
16documentary award in 2003 and a MBJA Eric Sevareid Award of
17Merit for general reporting; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dave Benton anchored and produced the "Best Medium
19Market Public Affairs Program" according to the Illinois
20Broadcasters Association for his Crime Stoppers specials; he
21received the FBI Director's Community Leadership Award in 2011;

2    WHEREAS, The Dave Benton Crime Fighter Award was
3established to recognize those who are making a difference in
4Champaign County; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Benton was preceded in death by his father,
6and his paternal and maternal grandparents; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dave Benton is survived by his wife, Terri; his
8children, Lauren (Denise Macaluso) Benton and Matthew Benton;
9his 3 brothers, Mark (Bobbi) Benton, Brian (Karen) Benton, and
10Drew (Karen) Benton; his sister, Elizabeth (the late Gerald)
11Arizpe; his niece, Meagen Arizpe; and his nephew, Vincent
12Arizpe; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15David P. "Dave" Benton, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dave Benton as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
