SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dorothy L. Mavrich of Joliet, who passed
4away on February 10, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dorothy Mavrich was born in Rockdale to Luba and
6Louis; she moved to Joliet in 1955; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dorothy Mavrich was a music instructor at the
8Joliet Conservatory of Music until a major fire in 1974; she
9continued teaching at her residence and enjoyed teaching all
10age levels; and
 
11    WHEREAS, At the age of 50, Dorothy Mavrich became
12interested in politics but never sought office; her interest in
13public housing, inequitable taxation, and preservation of the
14then Rubens Rialto Square Theatre led to the formation of the
15Will County Cultural Arts Association in 1975; a name change to
16the Rialto Square Arts Association was instrumental in bringing
17the theatre under public ownership in 1978; she received many
18awards but her most cherished award was the honorary degree of
19Doctor of Humanities from the Lewis University; she authored 2
20books: "Why Not? A Journey Through Music Land!" and "Thinking";

1    WHEREAS, Dorothy Mavrich was preceded in death by her
2parents and her sister, Mildred; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dorothy Mavrich is survived by her 3 sisters,
4Amelia Kay (late Robert) Movold, Alice (late Jose) de Rotaeche,
5and Gladys (late Dr. Harold) Visotsky; her 2 nieces, Robin
6Visotsky and Maria (Sean) Green; her 2 nephews, Dr. Jeffrey
7(Lisa) Visotsky and John (Mapy) de Rotaeche; her great-nieces,
8Joanna de Rotaeche and Morgan Grace Green; her great-nephews,
9Zachary and Trevor Adam Visotsky and Matthew Louis Green; and a
10dear friend, Robert Baher; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Dorothy L. Mavrich, and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dorothy Mavrich as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
