SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald W. "Don" Damewood of Champaign,
4who passed away on February 6, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Damewood graduated from Champaign Central
6High School, where he played football and served as treasurer
7for his class reunions for many years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After graduation, Donald Damewood joined the
9United States Navy, where he served for several years in the
10Navy's Submarine Force on the USS Bugara; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After his discharge from the Navy, Donald Damewood
12joined the Champaign Fire Department in June of 1957, serving
13as an engineer at Champaign Firefighters Local 1260 for 25
14years until his retirement; he was a leader in both the local
15and State firefighters associations and worked tirelessly for
16the department's Firefighters Pension Fund; he was also an
17Emeritus Officer and a Central District Trustee for the
18Associated Firefighters of Illinois and was elected to serve as
19a trustee at the 16th Biennial Convention in Danville in 1966;
20he served as a Trustee until 1982; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Donald Damewood was a member of the American

1Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Humane Society of the
2United States; he was also an active member of the Elks Club
3for over 60 years; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Donald Damewood enjoyed cooking and reading; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Damewood was preceded in death by his
6sisters, Betty Ayers and Dorothy Nesmith, and his wife, Pat
7Damewood; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Donald Damewood is survived by his son, Keith
9Lustig and his life-partner, Matt Hurley, and recent companion,
10Barbara Bender; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald W. "Don"
14Damewood; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Donald Damewood as an expression of
17our sympathy.
