SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Certain communities on the Northwest side of the
3City of Chicago lay underneath the key nighttime air routes
4that converge over the community; this includes 5 glide paths,
52 major take-off plates, and air routes, all used after 10
6p.m.; and
 
7    WHEREAS, These communities of the City of Chicago seek a
8solution to the nighttime sleep interruptions during the hours
9of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., including the shoulder hours as well;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Nextgen Program is currently being applied at
12O'Hare International Airport, where flights that used to be
135-miles spaced apart will soon have only a 3-mile separation,
14times 6 east-to-west approach patterns for all inbound flights;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, These communities of the City of Chicago are
17experiencing higher levels of jet noise, especially during the
18phase 1 nighttime flight operations; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Federal
21Aviation Administration and the United States Environmental

1Protection Agency to conduct a study describing the
2environmental and human health impacts caused by runways and
3air traffic noise at Chicago O'Hare International Airport and
4the actual noise levels experienced in 2015; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
6delivered to the Commissioner of O'Hare International Airport,
7the Acting Administrator of the Federal Aeronautics
8Administration, and to each member of the Illinois
9congressional delegation.
