SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John "Jack" Bowles, III, who passed away
4on January 29, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III was born in Chicago on October 8,
61927; he graduated from high school in Highland Park and served
7in the United States Naval Air Force during World War II aboard
8the USS Menard; after the war, he attended Illinois Wesleyan
9University and graduated in 1951; he married Ann Capen on
10December 1, 1951; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III worked for Kaiser Aluminum in
12Ohio for a time, before moving back to Bloomington and joining
13his father-in-law in the insurance business; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III married Patsy Henderson on
15November 18, 1981; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III enjoyed golfing, hunting,
17fishing, camping, traveling, and following the Green Bay
18Packers; he was an officer and director of the Chicago District
19Golf Association and officiated at many golf tournaments; he
20was also a course rater for Golf Digest for 25 years and was a
21member of the Bloomington Country Club and Bob O' Link Golf

1Club; he authored a textbook on golf rules called "The Rules
2Caddie" to assist coaches when teaching players the rules of
3golf, which numerous high school coaches around the country are
4using today; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III served on many local boards and
6was involved in numerous organizations, including Victory
7Hall, the Children's Foundation, the McLean County Historical
8Society (emeritus), National City Bank Director, the Young
9Men's Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Pratt Music
10Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Illinois State
11Insurance Association; he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta
12Fraternity and a risk manager for his national fraternity; he
13was also a longtime member of the historic St. Patrick's Church
14and Holy Trinity Church; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III was preceded in death by his
16parents; his first wife, Ann; his brother, Jim; and his
17granddaughter, Kelsey Seyller; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Bowles, III is survived by his wife, Patsy;
19his 6 daughters, Cindy (Stephen) Shaffer, Mary Beth Lewis,
20Vicki (Mark) Seyller, Kim Bowles, Nancy Bowles, and Tina
21Buckley Cox; his son, Tyler (Angie) Buckley; his 11
22grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; his brother, Father
23Bill Bowles; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces; therefore,

2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4John "Jack" Bowles, III, and extend our sincere condolences to
5his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of John Bowles, III as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
