SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Maurice Zeiger Roy, formerly of Clayton,
4who passed away on November 25, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was born in Concord Township on
6January 12, 1926 to John R. and Alvesta M. Zeiger Roy; he
7attended Hazel Dell Country School and graduated from Clayton
8High School in 1944; he married Anita M. Lierly on June 22,
91947 in Quincy; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Maurice Roy worked as a grain and livestock
11farmer; he also served as road commissioner of Concord Township
12for 36 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Maurice Roy received the Grass Roots Award for
14longtime dedication and service to the Adams County Democrat
15Party in 1993; he was also the precinct committeeman for
16Concord Township for many years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was a member of the Clayton Christian
18Church, the Clayton Lions Club, the National Farmers
19Organization, and the Adams County Olde Tyme Association; he
20was one of the first tractor pullers in the area and was given
21the nickname "Green Blood" for his love of Oliver tractors; he

1also enjoyed going to local livestock auctions and local sales;
2he enjoyed playing the banjo and was a member of the Buggy
3Wheel Opry, which played at many nursing homes and festivals in
4the area; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was preceded in death by his parents;
6his 2 sisters, Roberta (Dick) Busen and Joan (Maurice) Brady;
7his brother, John W. Roy; his nephew, Robert Brady; his niece,
8Ann Busby; his in-laws, Frank and Jessie Lierly; and his loyal
9friend and helper, Mike Ellison; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Maurice Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years,
11Anita; his 3 daughters, Cheryl (Delmer) Schlueter, Nancy (Joe)
12Liesen, and Becky Barlow (Jim Kindhart); his 4 grandchildren,
13Angie (Brent) Ufkes, David Schlueter, Jessie Barlow, and
14Clayton Barlow; his 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley (Dillon)
15Darbyshire, Austin Ufkes, and Addison Ufkes; her 2
16great-great-grandchildren, Holton and Owen Darbyshire; his
17sister, Rosemary (James) Moore; his brother, James (Mara) Roy;
18and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore,
19be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Maurice Zeiger Roy, and extend our sincere condolences to his
23family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
