SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Human Services
3maintains a state-wide database known as PUNS, or
4Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services, that records
5information about individuals with developmental disabilities
6who are potentially in need of services; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Department of Human Services uses the data on
8Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services to select
9individuals for services as funding becomes available, to
10develop proposals and materials for budgeting, and to plan for
11future needs; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services
13exists in order to provide assistance with service needs; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Besides adults, Prioritization for Urgency of
15Needs for Services is also available for children and teens
16with developmental disabilities who need services or support;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services
19is the first step toward getting services in Illinois; if
20individuals are not on the Prioritization for Urgency of Needs
21for Services list, they are not in queue for State services;

2    WHEREAS, Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services
3may be under-utilized by children and their parents due to
4unawareness or a lack of information; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we strongly encourage
7the Illinois State Board of Education to work with school
8districts to inform all students with developmental
9disabilities and especially their parents that the
10Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services database is a
11resource that can assist them in obtaining services for their
12needs; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That we further encourage local school districts
14to direct parents and students to the Illinois Department of
15Human Services' Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for
16Services website for information annually during the
17Individualized Education Plan process.
