SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country; and
 
5    WHEREAS, At one time or another during World War II, 7 of
6the Ghere brothers of Arcola in Douglas County, served in
7either the European or Pacific theaters; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The names of the Ghere Brothers are Donnie,
9George, Harry, Russell "Fudgie", Bobby, John, and Jim; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bobby Ghere was killed on March 3,
111945 in Germany, defending his country; the
12Ghere-Pullen-Reinheimer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7862 is
13named in his honor; last year, Bobby Ghere was named to the
14Arcola Alumni Hall of Fame; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The story of the Ghere brothers and their
16commitment to their country is remarkable and unprecedented;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
20CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Route 133 as it passes

1through Douglas County as the "Ghere Brothers Memorial
2Highway"; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
6giving notice of the name "Ghere Brothers Memorial Highway";
7and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
10Transportation and the family of the Ghere brothers.
