SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinoisans are increasingly using new
3technology, including smart phones, in their daily lives for
4such core, day-to-day functions like working, banking, and
5shopping; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Increasing convenience is one way to improve the
7quality of life for our residents and citizens; and
 
8    WHEREAS, There is both a financial and an environmental
9cost for producing plastic driver's licenses; and
 
10    WHEREAS, There is an emergent technology that allows for
11secure digital driver's licenses; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The States of Iowa and Delaware are planning to
13experiment with digital licenses in 2015; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The digital driver's license would be optional and
15not required; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
18CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the Secretary of State to study
19and consider the issuance of optional digital driver's licenses

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the Secretary of State.
