AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1603

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1603 as follows:
 
3on page 3, by replacing lines 14 through 22 with the following:
 
4    "(h) Returning combat mission veterans. Beginning in
5registration year 2017, the application for renewal, and
6subsequent fees, of a vehicle registration for a member of the
7active-duty or reserve component of the United States Armed
8Forces returning from a combat mission shall not be required
9for that service member's next scheduled renewal. Proof of
10combat mission service shall come from the service member's
11hostile fire pay or imminent danger pay documentation received
12any time in the 12 months preceding the registration renewal.
13Nothing in this subsection is applicable to specialty or vanity
14license plates."; and
 
15by replacing line 21 on page 4 through line 4 on page 5 with the

2    "(c) Beginning with the 2017 registration year, the
3standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
4Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
5motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
68,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
7shall be waived for the year following the return of any
8Illinois vehicle owner who is a member of the active-duty or
9reserve component of the United States Armed Forces who can
10provide proof of serving in a combat mission. Nothing in this
11subsection is applicable to specialty or vanity license
12plates.".
