HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ronald P. Cooley of
4Petersburg on the occasion of his retirement as Executive
5Director of the Illinois State Police Merit Board on December
631, 2016; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ronald Cooley has been called a Yankee Doodle,
8having been born on the Fourth of July; he attended St. Joseph
9Grade School in Pekin, where his mother was a teacher, and he
10graduated from Pekin High School; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ronald Cooley has been serving as Executive
12Director of the Illinois State Police Merit Board since January
131, 2008; as Executive Director, he demonstrated his unique
14abilities to transcend political philosophies for the
15betterment of all Illinois citizens; he was the driving force
16for the establishment of Public Act 97-1051 and the State
17Police Merit Board Public Safety Fund, a dedicated funding
18source for Illinois State Police cadet training so the
19department will be able to maintain staffing levels necessary
20for the safety of Illinois motorists; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ronald Cooley served as the Deputy Chief of Staff
22for Intergovernmental Operations under former Comptroller,

1Dawn Clark Netsch, and as the Deputy Director for
2Intergovernmental Affairs under Secretary of State, Jesse
3White; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Ronald Cooley will
5continue to volunteer and serve his community with various
6organizations; he was instrumental in organizing the Secretary
7of State Annual Vehicle Show and Swap Meet and will remain
8interested in classic cars and antique tractors; he will
9continue volunteering at the Peoria Area Food Bank; he serves
10as President of the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation
11and has made it his goal to fund and construct an Illinois
12State Police Memorial Park on South Sixth Street in
13Springfield, adjacent to the Illinois State Police
14headquarters; he will also continue serving on the Illinois
15State Fair Museum Foundation Board, a group dedicated to
16continuing the legacy of the Illinois State Fair, and the
17DuQuoin State Bank Board of Directors; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ronald Cooley is looking forward to spending more
19time with his family, including his wife, Linda Morris-Cooley,
20his children, Kristi, Michael, and Nick (Heather), and his
21grandchildren, Zabian, Sebastian, Julian, Mason, and
22AnnaBelle; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Ronald Cooley serves as a model of hard work,

1integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
2Illinois; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5congratulate Ronald P. Cooley on the occasion of his retirement
6and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and
7be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Ronald Cooley as a symbol of our esteem and
10respect.
