HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the members of
4Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991 in Worth on the occasion
5of its 70th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991 was
7chartered on July 15, 1946 and was named after Corporal Raymond
8Marrs and Private Walter A. Meyer, citizens of Worth who gave
9their lives in the service of their country; Cpl. Marrs was a
10member of Company "E" of the 415th Railroad Battalion during
11World War I and Pvt. Meyer was a member of the 361st Infantry
12Regiment during World War II; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Marrs-Meyer American Legion Women's Auxiliary
14was chartered on January 25, 1947; it has over 100 members who
15support the American Legion and help veterans and their
16families; its members visit veterans at nursing homes and
17hospitals with gifts several times a year; they also prepare
18and distribute food baskets to needy families for Thanksgiving
19and Christmas; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991 has over 300
21regular members, as well as many associate members who
22participate in activities which help veterans; its members also

1contribute to local youth organizations, students, needy
2individuals, and families; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jon Harn, Commander of Marrs-Meyer American
4Legion Post 991 from 1987 to 1999, was instrumental in the
5creation of the new American Legion building, which opened on
6March 18, 1995; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The members of Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post
8991 serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for
9the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate the members of Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post
13991 in Worth on the occasion of its 70th anniversary and wish
14them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991 as a symbol
18of our esteem and respect.
