HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr.
4Thomas A. Lawless, who passed away on June 21, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless was born in Dixon to Thomas Lawless
6and Phyllis Wells on July 1, 1947; he had two siblings,
7Patricia and Joe; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless married Barbara Wojtowycz on August
931, 1968; they had three children and nine grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless graduated from Dixon High School in
111965; he continued his education at Northern Illinois
12University, studying pre-optometry; upon completion of his
13undergraduate degree, he enrolled in medical school at the
14Illinois College of Optometry, where he graduated cum laude
15with a degree in optometry in 1971; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless opened his own practice in his
17hometown of Dixon in 1973, and worked there until 2010; he
18specialized in primary care optometry for 37 years until his
19business was sold and merged with KSB Hospital, where he worked
20for six years; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless was a proud and meaningful servant to
2his community; his involvement included Rehab for Dignity, the
3Lee County Council on Aging, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul,
4the St. Patrick's Parish Council, and the St. Mary's School
5Board; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless was loved dearly by his family and
7friends, highly respected by his colleagues and a dedicated
8community servant who will be greatly missed by all those who
9knew him; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of Dr. Thomas A. Lawless, and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dr. Lawless as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
