HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4Illinois State Representative Eugene "Gene" Moore; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eugene Moore began his political career in 1989,
6when he was elected to serve as trustee for Proviso Township;
7he later went on to become the first African-American elected
8to represent the 7th District in the Illinois House of
9Representatives, where he served for three terms and was
10elected to a fourth term; in 1999, he was elected to serve as
11Cook County Recorder of Deeds, where he served until 2012; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Following his service as Cook County Recorder of
13Deeds, Eugene Moore remained in political circles, where he
14talked passionately about community affairs, backed local
15candidates, and mentored rising political figures like Maywood
16Trustee Isiah Brandon; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Eugene Moore was a member of the Second Baptist
18Church in Maywood; he was a football and basketball coach and
19mentor to youths in Proviso Township; he also served on
20numerous boards, including those of the Boys and Girls Club of
21West Cook County, the Proviso-Leyden Council on Community
22Action, John C. Vaughns Scholarship Fund, Inc., and the

1Community Economic Development Association; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Eugene Moore was the loving father of three
3children, Dowanna, Natalie, and Eric; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
7former Illinois State Representative Eugene "Gene" Moore; and
8be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Eugene Moore as an expression of our
11sympathy.
