HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Steve Mexin on the
4occasion of his retirement as Police Chief of the City of
5Geneva on May 6, 2016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After being hired as a Geneva patrol officer in
71989, Chief Mexin worked as a field training officer, field
8training co-coordinator, intern program coordinator, and
9member of the tactical response unit; he was appointed to serve
10as Police Chief in 2008; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Geneva Police Department has seen a great deal
12of change during Chief Mexin's administration, including the
13department's leap into the digital age; paper police records
14dating back to the 1950s were scanned for easier access, which
15provided more storage space; mobile data computers in the squad
16cars were also upgraded and the department transitioned to an
17electronic booking process; and
 
18    WHEREAS, During Chief Mexin's tenure, major crime in Geneva
19has decreased by 41% and theft has decreased by 36%; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Besides supervising the Police Department's 49
21employees, Chief Mexin has said that building relationships

1between the force and the community has been one of his top
2priorities; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Chief Mexin has served as a member of the Tri-Com
4Central Dispatch Board of Directors since 2008; his other
5membership affiliations include the Kane County Chiefs of
6Police, the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, the
7International Chiefs of Police, and the Northern Illinois
8Chapter of the FBI National Academy Association; he graduated
9from the FBI National Academy in 2005; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Steve Mexin on the occasion of his retirement as
13Police Chief of the City of Geneva and wish him continued
14success and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Chief Mexin as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
