HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the members of the
4Nineteenth Century Charitable Association on the occasion of
5the organization's 125th anniversary on March 16, 2016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Nineteenth Century Club was established in
71891 by a group of visionary women who believed that education,
8charitable activities, and civic involvement were vital
9elements in a thriving community; the spirit of the founders
10continues today in the work of the Nineteenth Century
11Charitable Association through benevolence grants,
12scholarships, and public programming in five areas - music,
13art, literature, science, and social sciences; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Since 1891, the Nineteenth Century Charitable
15Association has focused on strengthening the community through
16learning; the organization's diverse membership builds
17mutually beneficial partnerships, practices and promotes
18charitable giving, and advances intellectual stimulation,
19learning, volunteerism, and fellowship; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Over the years, the Nineteenth Century Charitable
21Association has provided support as well as thousands of
22donations to community organizations and not-for-profits

1through direct community outreach grant funding and the reduced
2or free use of its landmark building; the organization has also
3funded over 1,000 four-year college scholarships to area
4students, sewn and knitted more than 56,000 garments for
5infants, children, soldiers, and those in need from natural
6disasters, offered over 6,700 enriching and educational
7programs in art, music, social science, science, and
8literature, and has been a trusted community anchor that has
9touched countless lives in the past 125 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association is
11the sole owner of the organization's building at 178 Forest
12Avenue in Oak Park, which is used to support and enable the
13group's charitable and educational endeavors; various
14charitable and cultural activities are supported by its over
15200 members, volunteers, and donors, as well as events held in
16this Oak Park Landmark; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate the members of the Nineteenth Century Charitable
20Association on the occasion of the organization's 125th
21anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in
22the future; and be it further
 
23    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2symbol of our esteem and respect.
